Level 1 Chargers (Slow): These are your standard household outlets (240V). Charging times are the longest, often taking overnight or longer to fully charge a vehicle.
Level 2 Chargers (Fast): These are installed specifically for EV charging, providing power between 7kW and 22kW. They can typically charge an EV battery from empty to full in 4 to 8 hours, making them suitable for overnight charging at home.
Level 3 Chargers (Rapid): These are high-power chargers, usually found in public charging stations, and can charge an EV up to 80% in around 30 minutes to an hour.
For residential installations, Level 2 chargers are most common due to their balance between charging speed and installation cost.
Yes, EV chargers are generally compatible with all types of electric vehicles. Most residential EV chargers come with a Type 2 plug, which is the standard in Australia and compatible with the majority of EV models. However, it's always a good idea to check the specific requirements of your vehicle to ensure compatibility.
Evergreen Electrical can install any brand of EV charger. If you wish for us to supply and install a charger we offer the EVLink home and Delta AC Max chargers.
EV charging will increase your electricity bill, as it adds to your home's overall energy consumption. The impact on the bill depends on the vehicle's battery capacity and how often you charge it. To minimize costs, consider charging your EV during off-peak hours when electricity rates are lower, if your energy provider offers time-of-use tariffs. Additionally, integrating your EV charging with a home solar system can significantly reduce costs, as you can use the solar energy generated during the day to charge your vehicle, reducing reliance on the grid.
There are currently no government incentives for installing an EV charger, however there are some tax incentives on the purchase of an EV.
